TRANSFORMER CAUSES POWER OUTAGE

LMU superintendent Paul Hartman says a blown transformer outside the electric generating plant caused about 500 customers in Logansport to lose power around 7 o’clock last night.
There are conflicting reports from the fire department and Logansport Municipal Utilities of what occurred but LMU superintendent Paul Hartman says birds caused the transformer outside the plant to fail. Hartman says nothing happened inside the plant, and that it’s routine procedure that fires in the boiler are put out so no more steam is produced. He says people have have seen soot coming out of the vents, as well as the stack, which he says is also a routine occurrence when the boilers come down rapidly.
LMU restored power to all customers by 8:15 p.m.
