Logansport Launches New Multi-lingual Web Site

The World Wide Web now has an international flavor for the city of Logansport.
After months of research, design and implementation, the revamped city Web site has been launched. Included in its features is a translation option that will permit visitors to find city services in Spanish, Japanese, German, Italian, Thai, Lao and French.
Mayor Dave Kitchell credited Clerk-Treasurer Stacy Cox and Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Renee Gellinger who worked for months on the fact-finding and implementation phase, serving as a liaison between departments and Lafayette-based Indiana Design Consortium. He said their “deep digging” resulted in making information about accessing city services simpler to find. He said the new Web site also will be easier to navigate for people whose primary language is not English.
“Realizing that the first contact many international firms have with Logansport is through our Web site, we wanted it to be user friendly not only for our residents who use it daily, but for those who may not be familiar with where else they can go to find out about Logansport and what economic development potential it has,” Kitchell said.
Soon, city Board of Public Works and Safety and city council meetings will be streamed live on the site and recordings of the meetings will be available afterward.
While the project was a first for Indiana Design Consortium that involves a city government, Kitchell said the design is based on research into the frequency of usage for certain portions of the city’s information.
The site is accessible at www.cityoflogansport.org.
