The Christmas display will feature lighted, animated displays throughout the park and include a gingerbread village created and painted by local high school students from materials donated by McCord’s. Plans also include a sculpture designed by the Century Career Center welding class and numerous lighted smaller vignettes. A small per carload fee will be charged to visitors with an opportunity for local non-profits to work the entry gate on Monday through Thursday nights and keep the proceeds to benefit their own mission.
Marc Vendl, Logansport Parks Administrator and architect of the project said, “The Parks Foundation and the Christmas in the Park committee appreciate the kick-off contribution from the Cass County Community Foundation for the first Christmas in the Park. We are looking forward to this community event serving our local community and regional guests who visit for many years to come.”
Crispen shared, “We were very enthused about this project and specifically the collaboration that is already in place to truly make this a source of community pride. The $25,000 CCCF grant will provide the funds to purchase a custom “Logansport Christmas in the Park” lighted archway for the entrance display as well as several smaller installations. Our hope is that other local businesses and organizations will join us and donate funds to make this holiday dream come true!”
The Christmas in the Park committee is currently soliciting donations with a goal to raise $116,000 by the end of May. Opportunities exist for local businesses and individuals to donate and have their name with the display. All donations will be recognized and tax-deductible as allowed by law.
