Gretchen Miller Named Latest 'Citizen of the Week'
A Logansport resident who proactively has worked to promote historic preservation in the city is this week’s Logansport Citizen of the Week.
Gretchen Miller, who came to the community more than 20 years ago to work with the local Soil and Water Conservation District Office, eventually became interested in the bricks and mortar of one of the city’s prominent older neighborhoods, Bankers Row.
“Gretchen has really been passionate not only about the restoration of the Todd Bank Building, but the Bankers Row neighborhood,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said Monday. “She has gone above and beyond by taking the initiative to not only care, but invest in some of the city’s most endangered properties. Due in part to her investment, Bankers Row is a more viable neighborhood for residential and business owners. Historic preservation doesn’t happen by accident and it can’t happen with pure government support alone. It takes a public/private commitment to identify, preserve and appreciate our local architectural heritage.”
Miller, a graduate of Purdue University and Lafayette Central Catholic, resides in an historic home at 2500 E. Broadway with her husband, Todd.
The Citizen of the Week Award is presented on an ongoing basis to recognize local residents and natives for their work or volunteerism. She will receive a certificate from the Mayor’s Office and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
