US 231 CLOSED IN WHITE COUNTY

U.S. 231 in White County will close today for the contractor to overlay the I-65 Bridge decks over U.S. 231 at Exit 193. A 23 day closure is scheduled. During this time both northbound and southbound interstate traffic will gradually be slowed to 35 m.p.h. and taken down the ramps in two lanes, across U.S. 231 and back up the ramps and onto I-65. No motorists will be able to access the interstate from U.S. 231.

Rieth-Riley Construction Co. was awarded the $4.9 million contract. The project on I-65 includes resurfacing the interstate from U.S. 231 (Exit 193) to just over four miles north, overlaying the decks on the northbound and southbound bridges on I-65 over U.S. 231 and two County Road bridges, Jasper C.R. 1800 South just over one mile south of U.S. 24 and White C.R. 1100 West, nearly four miles south of U.S. 24. The completion date for the project is November 14, 2015.

The detour follows U.S. 231 south to State Road 18 east to State Road 43 north to U.S. 24 west and back to U.S. 231. Traffic traveling in the opposite direction will use the same detour in reverse.
