Logansport city officials believe a new spec building in the industrial park will help attract businesses to the community. At a special meeting last night, the Logansport Redevelopment Commission approved hiring Randall Miller & Associates as the project manager to begin the process of designing and building the 50,000 square foot building. Randall Miller is also the lead on the rehabilitation of the Tower Park Pool.
A $20,000 project management fee, a $15,000 fee for civil engineering and construction engineering at $125 per hour, plus other possible fieldwork at $150 per hour, would be paid from the Industrial Park TIF Funds.
Last month, the Industrial Park Board donated a 10 acre site in the Industrial Park for construction of the building. Redevelopment Commission Executive Director Bob Bishop says the Redevelopment Commission would own the building, which could then be rented, leased or sold to interested parties.
Miller said Logansport’s proximity to Chicago makes it an area where companies would be interested in locating, and said marketing of the property should begin immediately.
Miller said the project will be advertised, specs will be developed and a request for qualifications from contractors will be issued.
Redevelopment Commission Member Charlie Hastings, who’s also on the city council, said a spec building has been discussed during all three of his four-year terms on the council.
The redevelopment commission voted 3-0 to approve hiring Randall Miller and Associates to oversee the project. Board member Krista Slusser, who is employed by Randall Miller and associates, abstained.
