A snow-melting unit from the Indianapolis Airport left Indianapolis for Washington, D.C., to help eliminate massive amounts of snow in the nation’s capital.

The semi-truck-sized unit uses multiple jets of hot water to melt up to 60 tons of snow an hour dropped into it by large front-loader tractors/bulldozers. The water then flows into storm-sewer systems, leaving streets, sidewalks and parking lots snow-free.
