ACCIDENT ON US 24/35

Two vehicles were involved in a crash at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the US 24/35 interchange near Tyson Foods.

The Cass County sheriff's Department says a car driven by 64 year old Richard Oyler of Cedar Grove was westbound on the US 24 westbound collector distributor ramp. As he attempted to cross US35/SR 29, his vehicle was struck by a southbound van driven by 48 year old Manuel Bermudez of Berne.

A Cass County Sheriff's Deputy says Oyler failed to yield the right of way to the southbound vehicle driven by Bermudez.

Oyler sustained head injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital by Prompt Ambulance Service and later transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne by helicopter.

Bermudez complained of pain to the abdomen and a passenger in his van, 23 year old Johnny Schwartz of Monroe sustained facial injuries. The Sheriff's Department says Oyler and Schwartz were not wearing seatbelts.
