TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT IN NEIGHBORING COUNTIES

Winter Storm Petros moved into our area yesterday morning, and blizzard warnings were issued early for northern and western Indiana counties including Fulton and Pulaski.

Rain turned to snow in Cass County yesterday morning and snow continued throughout the day. A winter storm warning remains in effect through this afternoon.

As of this morning, Fulton, White and Marshall Counties are under a red travel warning, which means only emergency travel is permitted. 

Carroll, Pulaski, Wabash and Hamilton Counties are under orange travel watch, which means only essential travel is recommended. 

As of 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, Cass, Miami, Howard, Tippecanoe and Clinton counties remained under yellow travel warning status, where drivers should use extreme caution.

Statewide, Indiana state police responded to 220 property damage crashes, 60 personal injury crashes, and 228 slideoffs, and assisted 176 motorists.

Storm reports so far include 7.3 inches of snow in Rochester.

As of 4:30 yesterday afternoon Carroll White REMC reported nearly 5,000 outages and said Snow, ice, and strong winds were making it difficult to restore service. Four crews from outside the service territory were called into assist. About 30,000 NIPSCO customers were without power in the western and northwestern portion of the state, including White County.

In Logansport, Mayor Dave Kitchell said the city would not tow properly parked vehicles from city streets unless there is a prolonged snow emergency. Previously, vehicles were towed if owners failed to move cars to one side of the street to allow city plows to clear parking areas.

In the interim, the snow accumulation will mean that Logansport trash pick-up routes will be delayed until at least 7 a.m. Thursday and may be postponed entirely Thursday depending on weather conditions.

The weather resulted in many closings, delays and cancellations including several area factories .Cass Transit and the Senior Center will be closed today. Logansport Memorial Hospital physician offices, ExpressMed, Camden Clinic in Camden, Peru Medical Center, Healthy Companies and Outpatient Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy will open at noon, on Thursday, February 25, 2016, weather permitting. Pulmonary Rehab services at Logansport Memorial Hospital are closed on Thursday, February 25, 2016.
