CHILD ABUSE INVESTIGATION IN MIAMI COUNTY

A 23 year old Miami County man was arrested shortly after midnight today. The Miami County Sheriff says a 6 month old child was transported to Dukes Memorial Hospital Tuesday night and subsequently airlifted to a trauma center due to a suspicious head injury. An investigation was immediately initiated by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana Department of Child Services. Just after midnight, Alexander Lockhart was arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, aggravated battery, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana. He was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail and bail was initially set at $68,000. Authorities say the child sustained an acute subdural hematoma, multiple rib fractures and bruises and additional charges may be filed.
