A passenger who ran off into the woods east of Peru after a high speed chase through two counties Tuesday night, remains at large. Braxton Allen Korreckt, 24, Logansport is wanted on warrants for escape and burglary.
Korreckt was in a minivan driven by 24 year-old Christopher N. Widner of Flora, who refused to pull over for Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Johnson shortly after 11 pm Tuesday. Johnson followed Widner from south of Speedway near the high school to Peru in a chase with speeds topping 100 mph. Indiana State Police and Peru Police Department officers joined the chase in Peru. The minivan finally slowed along West River Road, where Korreckt fled into the woods. LPD 1st Sgt. Travis Yike and his K-9 Bronco assisted in the search for Korreckt throughout the woods near where the vehicle chase ended. The Peru Fire Department joined the search with a thermal imaging camera.
Johnson and the ISP and Peru Police officers apprehended Widner and a female front-seat passenger, who did not attempt to flee. Widner is wanted on a felony parole warrant issued out of Indianapolis and was transported to Logansport and booked in the Cass County Jail. Widner appeared in court this morning and entered an initial plea of not guilty to felony charges of resisting law enforcement.
