MONTICELLO STANDOFF ENDS PEACEFULLY

A standoff in Monticello yesterday afternoon ended peacefully. 49 year-old Robert D. Hill surrendered to police after barricading himself inside his apartment for four hour, according to Indiana State Police.

Troopers and Monticello police attempted to serve an arrest warrant around noon to Hicks at his apartment in the 1400 block of Main Street. The warrant was for violation of parole.

Hill refused to leave his apartment and threatened officers from inside, according to state police. Officers withdrew a safe distance and called for assistance from Indiana State Police, who sent a SWAT team and negotiator to the scene. Police tried for several hours to coax Hill from his apartment.

After four hours of being barricaded inside his apartment, Hill walked out, surrendering to police, and was later taken to IU White Memorial for evaluation.

Police say it will be up to the White County Prosecutor as to whether Hill faces any charges for Wednesday's standoff. Monticello and state police were assisted by deputies from Pulaski, White and Carroll county sheriff's offices.
