STAGE FIRE FRIDAY NIGHT AT PIONEER JR. SR. HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM
Pioneer Junior Senior High School’s production of Into the Woods had a memorable opening night Friday. Toward the end of the play some embers from a pyrotechnic device that went off on cue started a small fire on the stage. Principal Jeremy Tucker and Vice Principal Jeff Brook immediately jumped on the stage to help extinguish the fire, with Tucker suffering a leg injury during the ordeal. While the pyrotechnics had been rehearsed multiple time in preparation for the weekend production without any issues, the specific effect that caused the fire was eliminated for the next two performances which went on without a hitch. As any former or current theater kid knows “The show must go on!” And so it did. We would like to note that no students were injured during the play.
