Warrant Issued in 1997 Amboy Bank Robbery

Wednesday evening, a cold case bank robbery investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Josh Maller resulted in the arrest of a Florida man. William Stinemetz, 52, of Palm City, Florida. was served with a Miami Circuit Court arrest warrant alleging a felony charge for robbery with a deadly weapon. The warrant was served at the Fulton County Jail where Stinemetz is currently incarcerated on criminal charges stemming from Fulton County. The Miami County warrant was in regard to a 1997 robbery of First Farmers Bank & Trust in Amboy, IN. That case went stale long ago.  Evidence which had been collected during the initial phase of the investigations was submitted to an Indiana State Police Laboratory for DNA analysis and the results were entered into the Combined DNA Index System. A subsequent search of the system revealed an alleged match to Stinemetz. The DNA evidence and previous evidence gathered during the investigation, led to officers presenting enough probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Stinemetz.
