Buchanan Named 'Citizen of the Week'

A local resident who has had a hand, a voice and two feet in promoting thousands of amateur actors, singers and dancers is this week’s Logansport Citizen of the Week.

Pat Buchanan, now with Logansport’s Junior Civic Theater, has served the community in several capacities, including Iron Horse Festival chairman. For most of the 20 years the festivals were held she chaired the entertainment committee and was responsible for scheduling and filling multiple stages with continuous acts for portions of three days.

For many years, her dance school presented annual recitals. She also was known throughout the community as the long-time coach of the Logansport High School Berryettes. But she also was active in numerous other roles from children’s choir director in a church to choreographer for high school productions. “Once Upon a Crime: The Tale of Goldilocks” is her latest effort. The Junior Civic Theater production will be presented at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Mary Max Theater.

“In Pat, we have had a one-of-a-kind person who both paid and unpaid, has been a willing supporter of all things Logansport when it comes to working with young people,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “ Her many contributions are often appreciated only with applause, hugs and handshakes, but she deserves the recognition of being a citizen who goes above and beyond for the community good in the ways she can make a difference.”

Buchanan and her husband, former Logansport fireman Tom Buchanan, are the parents of three daughters and a son, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will receive a certificate from the Mayor’s Office and a gift certificate to a Logansport restaurant.
The Citizen of the Week recognizes Logansport residents, natives and former residents for their achievements and contributions.
