Indiana Students Compete in National Bee
A dozen Indiana students will compete in the 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee beginning today. One of those is Maconaquah Middle School Student Anastasia Spahr. Spahr outlasted 21 other spellers from Howard, Tipton, Miami, Cass and Fulton counties to win the regional bee with the word “anomaly”. Another Hoosier contestant, Daniel Larsen, a seventh-grader from Bloomington, Indiana, is the youngest New York Times crossword puzzle constructor ever. The champion of the three day competition will take home $40,000, the Scripps National Spelling Bee trophy, a $2,500 US savings bond and a complete reference library.
