DEVELOPER EXPLAINS POWER PLANT PROJECT

The Utility Service Board unanimously approved what could be up to a fifty-year agreement with a company called SGP Energy Logansport at a special meeting yesterday.

SGP Energy Logansport is a division of SG Preston, which has also announced plans to build a $400 million biodiesel facility in Logansport. The board recessed for about 35 minutes to wait for SG Preston’s R. Delbert LeTang, who ran late due to car trouble.

LeTang talks about what his company does.

“We are a bioenergy developer. SG Preston utilizes proven commercial scale technologies to take organic biomass waste or waste-type products and convert them into commercial scale renewable fuels and energy. That is what we do.”

LeTang said his company is here because Logansport is dying, and he believes US companies have a responsibility to save US communities.

As to whether there are communities where similar projects are being done by SG Preston:

“Absolutely.”

“The communities in Ohio, you know we’re doing our biofuels here in Logansport, as well as in Southpoint, OH, Van Wert, Ohio, a community in Michigan yet to be announced and community in Ontario, Canada yet to be announced. Those announcements, there should be a pretty substantial announcement this week, but what’s important to note is we’re developing volume-scale, not experimental- or lab-scale solutions because we have a volume-scale demand for renewable fuels and energy in the market."

"If you think through all the coal-fired plants that are closing, how exciting would it be for towns like Logansport if SG Preston could come along, partner with those towns, assume those plants whether it be through a BOTA (build-operate-transfer) agreement like in Logansport or an acquisition of those plants. And instead of that town losing those jobs, allowing that town to retain those jobs, and the industries that are looking for renewable fuels, if they could rely on SG Preston and its partners to develop the volume of renewable fuels that they’re looking for, that to us is the future. It’s a tremendous paradigm shift in power, energy and fuels and we believe we’re at the forefront and will continue to remain there.”
