POWER PLANT VOTE DELAYED

Logansport’s $300 million dollar power plant project hit another delay yesterday. The Build Operate Transfer Agreement contract was expected to be awarded by the Board of Works to SGP Energy LLC, but the public hearing and vote were delayed at the request of the company’s attorney.

Chris Armstrong, the city’s community development director, is one of three members of the Board of Works, along with Ron Miller and Mayor Ted Franklin. She said there is no new date for the meeting and public hearing, but the attorney for SG Preston asked that it be delayed as there are questions that need to be addressed to make sure everything is good for all involved. She said it may or may not need to go back to the Utility Service Board and Council, which approved the documents last week, saying all of their questions have been answered. Mayor Ted Franklin did not respond to an e-mail inquiry about the meeting but WLFI reports that the mayor says the delay is because of some unanswered questions of how the plant will connect to the power grid.

Per the documents approved last week, a $1.75 million acquisition and development fee was to be placed in escrow for the city by Oct. 15.
