Logansport officials say reinstating an executive position better legally protects the city while one opposes because he feels current circumstances make for a possible conflict of interest. City council voted to reinstate the office of deputy mayor Monday night, July 5.
Mercedes Brugh has been working under the title since January after Mayor Dave Kitchell appointed her late last year before taking office. The position’s duties had been carried out by a city community development director since 2010. The ordinance the council passed cites state law allowing for a deputy mayor “to exercise the duties and responsibilities of the Mayor in the Mayor’s absence.”
