Mayor Asks State For Help On 18th Street Cost Overruns

With the city running way over on the 18th Street project, Mayor Dave Kitchell is asking the state for help. Yesterday, Kitchell said the unexpected cost overruns are reaching some 360-thousand dollars. Much of the added expense is reportedly due to crews running into more limestone than they thought was there, which is not cheap to remove. According to the Pharos-Tribune, Kitchell emailed the state legislators representing Logansport. He wrote that the city is disputing the cost overruns because they should have been foreseen during planning. INDOT won’t pay for the extra cost because it wasn’t budgeted for.
