State Will Require Mandatory Deer Check-Ins
Deer hunters across Indiana are being asked to turn in samples of the animals after bovine tuberculosis was discovered in Indiana. It’s the first time this has ever happened in the state. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is creating a new management zone in three east-central Indiana counties, with the emphasis being on bucks that are two years or older. The department is holding a mandatory check-in of hunter-harvested deer on the weekend of September 24th and through much of the month of November. Voluntary samples will be collected through the month of October and the first full week in December. The tuberculosis case was recently found in a white-tailed deer in Franklin County.
