Proposed Apartment Building Stirs Up Concerns

The Logansport City Council held their monthly meeting last night and one item on the agenda stirred up a bit of interest in the community. The Tipton School Planned Unit Development at 16th and Wright Streets is causing concern to some residents of the neighborhood, around 10 of whom attended last night’s meeting. The concerns that were voiced included the large building being an eyesore, the building’s overall aesthetic to the neighborhood, and changes to traffic patterns and activity in the neighborhood.
Peak Community Services, who obtained the property in July is working with Crestline Communities and R&B Architects, both out of Indianapolis, to pursue funding from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority for the building. The proposed building building would have 38 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom units and units would be rented to tenants making between 30 and 60 percent of area median income. Peak advocates and provides services for individuals with developmental disabilities. A percentage of the apartment units would be reserved for Peak clients.
The next meeting concerning the Tipton School Planned United Development will be Monday Oct. 10th at 5:30 pm at Peak Community Services, 1416 Woodlawn Ave, Logansport. The meeting will be open for community members to attend, ask questions, and learn more about this proposed housing unit.
Indiana’s Best Radio will be following up on this story.
