Fairview Elementary to Participate in "Walk to School Day"

Tomorrow is National “Walk to School Day”. The Indiana State Department of Health Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity reminds Hoosiers that being physically active can help reduce the risk of diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. To get Indiana residents moving, parents and students are being asked to participate in Walk to School Day on Oct. 5.

We spoke with Fairview Elementary School Principal Christine Hess who said that the school will be participating in Walk to School Day again this year. Hess said that Fairview Elementary encourages students and parents to participate, wearing bright colored clothing, and then they will be treated to fresh fruit when they come in.

Walk to School Day emphasizes the importance of increased physical activity among children and safe transportation environments for walking and bicycling in Indiana communities. While walking is emphasized, bicycling is also encouraged.
