LCSC AWARDS CRYSTAL BERRY

Logansport Community School Corporation announced the inaugural recipient of the Crystal Berry award this week, honoring an outstanding teacher. Julie Kistler, a first grade teacher at Landis was this year’s recipient.

“It’s quite an honor. Teaching is very much a team effort. You’re in your classroom and you do your own thing in your classroom but it’s very collaborative.
It’s very much a team effort."

Superintendent Michele Starkey talks about the rationale behind the award.

"I think it’s just so important in this time, with all the political things going on, and everything in education, that we continue to support our teachers. They have a hard job
but they are doing a really great job because many of our kids come to school with lots of different needs and we’re asking teachers to do a multitude of things so i always feel like while my number one job is to make sure our students are safe and learning, one of my very important jobs, too, is to be a cheerleader for our teachers  and make sure that they’re supported and know that we appreciate what they do. That’s kind of where we came from. We need to tout our own story on telling about the great things that our teachers are doing.”

Julie Kistler will be the Logansport school corporation’s nominee for Indiana’s Teacher of the Year.
