LOGANSPORT MAN RECEIVES MAX SENTENCE

A Logansport man was sentenced to the maximum sentence of six years in the Department of Corrections for felony dealing in methamphetamine, Cass County Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Swaim announced yesterday.39 year old Alan Dewitt was convicted by a jury of felony dealing, possession with intent to manufacture, maintaining a common nuisance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia in Cass County Circuit Court on June 23. Sentencing Judge Leo Burns cited Dewitt’s extensive criminal history as part of the reason for the maximum sentence.

The case stemmed from a search warrant served March 31 by officers with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department and the Logansport Police Department at 2209 E. Wabash River Road. Testimony indicated officers smelled what they knew to be a chemical smell associated with a meth lab. When officers searched the residence, they located numerous ingredients used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Alan Dewitt and 34 year old Jessie Dewitt were arrested at the scene.

Jessie Dewitt is set for a pretrial conference August 6 in Cass County Circuit Court.
