POLAR PLUNGE BENEFITS CASS COUNTY ATHLETES

Special Olympics Indiana Area Five is gearing up for its annual Polar Plunge Fundraiser on Saturday, February 13.

Cinda Milan says it’s a very important fundraiser for the organization.

We have people out right now collecting sponsors to sponsor them as they actually will come out and jump in the water for Special Olympics. We call it 'freezing for a reason,' and that’s for our athletes. This is our way of getting the funds that we need to operate for the next year. That’s where we buy all the awards for our athletes for the four competitions that we put on and then we also buy the summer t-shirts for the Summer Games opening ceremony. Our area all wears the same shirt that night."

Lori Haynes says there are several ways to participate.

“Anybody can participate in the Polar Plunge, as long as you raise $75 then you’ll get a t-shirt, a free breakfast and a chance to hop in the water. There’s going to be all sorts of awards for best costume, largest group, most funds raised, so we really encourage people to make this a fun family event. Come on down, wear your costumes. If you don’t want to come actually get in the water - if you don’t want to get wet or cold - then you can be a virtual plunger as well. You get a virtual plunge t-shirt and again you get the free breakfast. There’s several ways you can enter.

You can either show up the day of the Plunge which is this Saturday (February 13). Registrations starts at 8:30 or you can go online to our First Giving page and you can sign up there to be a real plunger or a virtual plunger or you can walk up the day of.

The Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Area Five begins at 8:30 Saturday at Crossroads Community Church in Kokomo, which is located on US 31 just off Highway 26.
