An arrest has been made in a fire that killed a Logansport woman on New Year’s Day.
On January 1 at 1:22 a.m. Logansport Fire & Police Department were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 1100 1/2 High Street in Logansport.
Inside the burning building, firefighters located victim, Michele Jones, unresponsive. Firefighters pulled Jones from the residence and she was transported by ambulance to Logansport Memorial Hospital, then later to St. Joseph Hospital Burn Unit in Ft. Wayne.
Jones died the next day as result of her injuries sustained in the fire.
LPD interviewed David Lee Hicks, who was in a relationship with the victim at the time of the fire. Hicks was interviewed in Howard County on January 3rd, and then interviewed a 2nd time in Jonesborough, TN on March 29th.
This week the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office charged Hicks with murder and levels 2 and 4 felony arson, and an arrest warrant was issued.
Prosecutors expect Hicks to be transported back to Logansport within 10 days for an initial hearing. There is no bond for Hicks on the initial warrant.
