The council also unanimously approved the Logansport Fire Department’s application for a FEMA assistance to firefighters grant, for funding for personal protective equipment and exclusive package of self contained breathing apparatuses.
A resolution authorizing the introduction of personalized or take home vehicles for Logansport police officers was passed 6 to 1. Under the new personalized patrol vehicle program four new vehicles will be purchased in 2016 and four new vehicles in 2017 to fully implement the program.
The city council unanimously passed an ordinance that will appropriate $20,000 in County Economic Development Income Tax funds to the Logan’s Landing downtown facade improvement program.
An an ordinance was unanimously passed establishing the Banker’s Row Interpretive Center Grant Fund. Mayor Dave Kitchell addressed the controversy previously surrounding the grant, in that city council members had not learned of the application for the matching grant until after the grant had already been awarded. Some officials had expressed frustration at the situation. Kitchell stated that he took “responsibility for bungling the front part of this” and that “hopefully we can move ahead in the future with more organization.”
A resolution was passed authorizing the expenditure of $4,000 in funds designated for business promotion to be used at Dykeman Municipal Golf Course. The funds are for guests of local businesses with more than ten full-time employees, and intended to facilitate ongoing interaction between local businesses and their new clients and potential customers. The resolution was passed 5 to 2. Co-owner of Logan’s Run Family Golf Course, Amanda Crain spoke to the council and voiced her concern and disappointment that the other local golf courses were not included or offered the chance to be apart of the initiative. Mayor Dave Kitchell addressed Crain’s comments, indicating that the council would revisit the issue in the future, and mentioning that the other courses are outside of Logansport city limits.
