“Heidi was a swimming phenom who became a name synonymous with swimming excellence in Logansport,” Mayor Dave Kitchell said today. “Her commitment and drive to be the best she could be established a career mark for state championships that lasted for many years. Many of her LHS records still stand. The takeaway message from her example is that a career that literally begins at the Cass County Family Y can take you all the way to the Olympic Trials. It did for Heidi.”
Knight first swam in Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, where her parents now reside. After returning to Indiana following her graduation, she came back to Logansport where she began her coaching career.
She will receive an Indiana state flag and a certificate from the city. The award is presented weekly during 2016 to recognize local residents or natives who have brought state or national recognition to Logansport.
