MIAMI COUNTY VOTERS TURNED AWAY AT POLLS

There was a record turnout at the polls in Miami County yesterday. But some voters were turned away from the Miami County Courthouse after waiting in line to vote. At around 5:50 PM an announcement was made that at 6 PM, when the polls would officially close, anyone not inside a 50-foot roped off area outside the polling room would be asked to leave the Courthouse without voting. Shortly after 6 PM, Miami County Clerk Tawna Leffel-Sands came out of the voter registration office to announce she had been on the phone with the State Election Board who had told her that everyone who had been in the Courthouse in line at the time the polls closed should remain and were legally allowed to vote. However, by that time, many of the voters had already left the building. Leffel-Sands says one of her employees will face discipline because of the incident once she consults with the county's attorney.
