Indiana and other States Reach $18.5 Million Settlement with Target
Indiana has joined 46 other states and the District of Columbia in an $18.5 million settlement with the Target Corporation to resolve the states’ investigation into the retail company's 2013 data breach. The breach affected more than 41 million customer payment card accounts and exposed contact information of more than 60 million customers. Cyber criminals accessed a gateway server and installed malware which allowed them to steal customer data. The settlement is the largest multistate data breach settlement achieved to date. Indiana will receive over $623,000 of the $18.5 million settlement.
