ABSENTEE BALLOTS AVAILABLE FOR ELECTION

The general election is November 3 but Cass County Clerk Beth Liming says it’s time for voters to start thinking about it. The clerk’s office is taking applications from those who want to receive a ballot to vote absentee by mail, or by a visit from the travel board on election day.

“Travel board basically is anyone that is considered as a shut in,” Liming said. “All of our nursing homes basically are done like that. Also, someone that might be caring for that shut in too is eligible to vote by travel board.

There will be a Republican and Democrat team go out together. They actually take the ballot to the facility or to the home. The voter gets to vote. The voter puts it into a sealed envelope and then it’s brought back to our office and locked up until Election Day.

Logansport voters will choose a mayor, clerk-treasurer and all seven city council members. There’s one contested race on the ballot for Royal Center voters, for Royal Center Town Council Ward 1. Voters in the Walton and Galveston areas will not have a ballot in November.

“Walton did not have any contested races so there will not be a ballot at all created for Walton,” Liming said. “Number 1, it saves us on our end, and Number 2, it saves the town of Walton - money and everything. Anybody out in Walton, basically Walton and Onward, those people are going to be the same people. They’ll just be carryovers into the next four years.

"Galveston is a little bit different. There were some contested races but they were only on the Republican side. There was nobody that filed on the Democrat side. So, what had to happen was there was a convention held and that’s been done and over with, and then with nobody being on the Democrat side, that means that we did not have to create a ballot for Election Day for them. The people that were elected in the convention, those are the new officials that will take office come January 1 of next year."

Early voting in the garage at the Cass County Government Building begins October 19.
The deadline to register to vote is October 5.
