IVY TECH RANKED FIRST

In a report released by Community College Week, Ivy Tech Community College is ranked first in the nation amongst two-year colleges for the number of associate degrees granted in the 2013-14 school year.

Ivy Tech granted 9,453 associate degrees, which is almost double that of Northern Virginia Community College – the number two school on the list – which granted 5,578 associate degrees.

“These are certainly impressive numbers and reflect the college’s hard work in ensuring students achieve their educational goals,” said Thomas J. Snyder, President of Ivy Tech. “Ivy Techworks with the state’s most complex student body, which includes a majority of students attending part-time and having responsibilities such as work and family obligations that sometimes prevent them from completing their degree. We are encouraged by these numbers and will continue to strive to improve them each year.”

The state’s community college system also ranked first amongst two-year colleges for the number of two-year certificates granted, which totaled 6,514. This was nearly three times that of Guilford Technical Community College, which ranked second and granted 2,152 two-year certificates.

Ivy Tech also ranked first in granting associate degrees in a number of disciplines, including:

Business, Management, Marketing and Related Support Services

Computer and Information Sciences

Education

Criminal Justice and Corrections

Engineering Technology and Engineering-Related Fields

Health Professions and Related Programs

Nursing, including Registered Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing

Protective Services

Precision Production

Amongst two-year colleges, Ivy Tech also ranks sixth in the number of one-year certificates granted within the 2013-14 school year.

The community college also continues to rank highly in the number of degrees granted to African-American students and ranks fifth in the nation amongst 2-year colleges.
