A two-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Miami County claimed the life of a 10 year old Miami County girl. It happened just after 6:30 at the intersection of Miami County Road 1200 N and Miami County Road 100 W.
State Police say 44 year old Lori Herrell of Marcy was northbound on CR 100 W in a 2015 Chevy Tahoe when 37 year old Andrez McGee of Logansport allegedly disregarded a stop sign and hit the Chevy in the front passenger door. Herrell’s vehicle rolled at least once, coming to rest on its top, while McKee’s vehicle, a 1999 Dodge pickup truck, came to rest on its side and caught on fire. McGee climbed out of the burning vehicle prior to first responders arriving, and Denver firefighters extinguished the blaze.
10 year old Sara Herrell of Macy was a passenger in the front seat of the Chevy Tahoe and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lori Herrell was flown by helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. McGee was also flown by helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital with life-threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation but State Police say the consumption of alcohol by McGee is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
