BICENTENNIAL CITIZEN RECOGNITION BEGINS

Former Logansport baseball coach Jim Turner has been recognized as the first Logansport Indiana Bicentennial Citizen.

Turner, who coached the Logansport Berries to state baseball championships in 1975, 1977, 1979 and 1991, was recognized yesterday by Logansport Mayor Dave Kitchell.

“Each week throughout the year of Indiana’s bicentennial, a Logansport citizen or native who has achieved statewide or national acclaim will be honored,” Kitchell said.

Turner succeeded Rex Hunter as baseball coach. Two of his players, Tim Smith and John Curl, were named winner of the L.V. Phillips Mental Attitude Award after their performances in two of Logansport’s championship seasons, 1975 and 1991.

Turner will receive a certificate and an Indiana flag.
